What is Mansard Roof System?
The Mansard roof was invented by a French architect named François Mansard. The roof block has a rather large slope and creates an interesting and coherent architecture. This type of roof is very suitable for classical and neoclassical designs. Immersed in the development of society, the architects have created this roof type to become more flexible and impressive. Because dark stone is quite scarce and expensive, it has now been replaced by cheaper stone, concrete walls or metal roofs...
Mansard roof construction methods
1. The most common Mansard roof construction is pouring concrete and then gluing tiles
Most of the neoclassical villa projects (such as neoclassical 2-storey villas, neoclassical 3-storey villas...) are constructed with modified Mansard roofs.
That is to build the roof block into a trapezoid shape (this process of pouring concrete is also quite expensive) with a thickness of about 6 to 10cm, the outer surface can be covered with a truss frame and then glued with slate, bitumen covered with stone.. .
In addition, to save even more, people also use mansard roofing materials such as dark colored corrugated iron sheets or dark brown painted concrete panels, not tiles. With this modern construction technique, mansard roof construction and handling is very easy, but with this concrete pouring method, there will also be 2 different solutions:
One is to pour concrete on a flat roof and then pour a trapezoidal roof block above to prevent heat and insulate, but this solution is extremely expensive.
The second is not to pour concrete on the flat roof, but pour the entire mansard roof on top and then make a plaster ceiling against heat, in terms of function and efficiency, it is not the same as above but saves the cost of pouring concrete.
Note: When concreting the Manrsand roof, it is necessary to perform the waterproofing step to ensure the quality of the house.
2. Construction of Manrsad roof by roofing trusses without pouring concrete and then firing tiles
Currently, for French-style adjacent villas, people do not construct Mansard roof by pouring concrete because it is too expensive. Which uses the truss frame system and then shoots black tiles or corrugated iron roof tiles to form the Mansard block.
With this solution, the efficiency will be lower and often the top layer cannot be used because it is very hot and easy to leak.
The Mansard roof truss frame has a more complex structure than the pitched roof truss, but has the same advantage of helping to save costs at an optimal level compared to the concrete solution.
3. Construction of mansard roof with FlatZip standing seam roof
To solve the problem of heat resistance, waterproofing and soundproofing for the attic of the mansard roof, the architects chose Flatzip for their villa. The FlatZip roof system is made of aluminum with many different colors including imitation stone, combined with layers of mineral wool, moisture-proof membrane to create a roof system with good sound and heat insulation, helping homeowners have You can use the entire attic for your own purposes. In addition, the FlatZip roof system can be bent to create accents for the project.
4. Construction of mansard roof with Diamondzip diamond roof
DiamondZip roof is shaped like diamonds placed close together to create a highlight for the project. DiamondZip diamond panels are linked together so they are completely watertight and sturdy even under high wind loads.
In addition, we can combine Flatzip metal roof and DiamondZip diamond roof for our villa.
This combination will fully exploit the advantages of each roof system. Flatzip roof will be installed above to maximize heat and moisture resistance while DiamondZip diamond roof will be installed on the facade of the attic to show the aesthetics of the house.
