Polycarbonate roofing sheets are one of the most used materials for light projects today because they are affordable and easy to transport and install.
Polycarbonate sheet has high light transmittance, so it can be used to make skylights, awnings, lobby roofs, swimming pool roofs, light windows, greenhouses, etc. If the installation area is small, you can completely install it yourself at home instead of hiring an installation unit.
To be able to install it yourself, the first and most important step of the process is to measure and cut the Poly sheet. Why do we need to measure the sheet size and cut the sheet before mounting?
The measurement will help us know the exact area of Poly panels needed for each installation position such as: windows, eaves, skylights... From the measured data, we can buy panels suitable for the quantity needed. used to avoid wasting money buying materials.
Poly roofing sheets are sold in sheets of different sizes so it is necessary to cut them into small sheets of the right size for the location to be installed.
To cut the poly sheet properly without damaging the sheet, we can apply the following way:
1. Preparation
- Poly Sheet
- Ruler: measure the size
- Straight edge ruler: draw straight lines and align angles for balance
- Knife, circular saw
- Clamp: clamp to fix the plate when cutting to avoid shifting
- Wood block: Wood clamp support
- Pencil: Mark the cutting position
- Filter tape
- Face shield: shields the eyes from splashes
- Protective gloves: avoid hurting hands when cutting and transporting
2. Implementation steps
Step 1: Measure the size of the polycarbonate sheet to match the mounting position size. Use a pencil and a straight edge to mark the lines to be cut.
Step 2: – Lay the flat panels down on a stable surface and clamp it down. While polycarbonates are extremely durable and impact resistant, we recommend being safe while handling and cutting them. Therefore, it is recommended to use a wooden block theme to cushion the impact of the clamp.
Step 3: – Put on goggles and gloves then proceed to cut the sheet with a cutter or circular saw. Make sure the sheet cutting tool is sharp for a better cut. Polycarbonate will not crack, crumble and is non-toxic, so it does not affect health during cutting and installation
Step 4: – Once the cut is complete, file again with the file so that any excess debris can be removed and the cut is smoother.
Step 5: – Preserve the cut sheet. If you have not installed the panels yet, arrange them neatly and do not peel off the protective film until you have finished installing them to avoid scratches or dust on the panels.
